O’Hare & McGovern building on Queen’s GAA success
The Queen’s University Gaelic Football Club supported by Queen’s Development & Alumni Relations Office and Queen’s Sport has secured a major 3 year sponsorship agreement with leading Newry based construction firm O’Hare & McGovern.
The agreement will cover the Queen’s Gaelic Football Sigerson and McKenna Cup squads as well as the Sean O’Neill Academy Scholarship Programme that is now in its 5th year.
Queen’s Sport and the Development Office are aiming to secure a number of investments over the coming months to protect the future of the most high profile sporting academies at Queen’s as they compete at the very highest level.
O’Hare & McGovern Managing Director, Eamon O’Hare commented “It is a great honour to be associated with an institution such as Queen’s with its great tradition in Gaelic Games. We are and have been involved with Queen’s Estates Department on a number of building projects and having won the Construction Excellence Award for Partnering with Queen’s in their New Library, we would hope that this “New Partnership” will bring them future success on the playing field. We are pleased to be involved in Sport at Queen’s at this present time”
Current Queen’s Club Captain, Justin Crozier, remarked on how the deal will benefit the players, “With the partnership now in place for the Sigerson team and scholarships, the club now has the opportunity to provide us with the support required at this level – physio, sports science, clothing and all those small things that add up to creating a better team”
The Queen’s team continues its Ryan Cup campaign as the side faces greatest rivals UUJ at Casement Park on Wednesday 4th November in a showdown that will determine who tops the Northern section. Both sides have started well in the competition so it will be an interesting test to see what strength and depth they have in the run up to the McKenna Cup in January.
